in february 2007 i successfully finished my studies with my diploma project called "competence centre for steep locations" i.e. winery for receiving my degree as an diploma engineer for architecture.
task:
the building site is located opposite the steepest vineyard hill of europe (calmont), on a head land with the river mosel around.
task was to develop the first german "competence center for steep locations".
heart of the designed building should be an experimental viticulture.
it was as well asked for a service center with laboratories, schooling and function rooms.
my concept:
the situation of the building results from the philosophy to regard it as out runners of the forest.
it follows the sloping topography and is integrated into the landscape by the material slate and the partly entrenched building elements.
the glass boxes and the slate-disguised building are in contrast.
when the slate building meets a glass box, it rises to a roof.
the building is entered from the top level.
there are consultation and administration situated in the first glass box.
using the next glass box, you enter the production entrenched in the slope.
in the middle glass box, the entrance hall, you find yourself standing on a glass floor looking at the 2-level barrel cellar underneath, which connects production, entrance hall and schooling area.
the following glass box contains the wine testing room with a large external terrace.
now broad stairs leads to the basement, where the bar forms the final conclusion with views in all directions.
as in-depth study i selected the interior design of the cafe / bar.
